Chair of Didactics of the German Language, University of Teacher Education, University of Applied Sciences and Arts North-western Switzerland (FHNW)
German is not only a subject taught at school, it is also, in German-speaking Switzerland, the language in which almost all subjects are taught. It follows that learning in school is highly dependent on mastering the requisite linguistic skills. The teaching and learning, or didactics, of German is concerned with the teachability and learnability of the German language in German as a subject as well as in the other subjects, but it also explores the link between linguistic skills and learning outcomes. The objective of all the activities is to promote pupils' linguistic abilities at secondary school levels I and II and thus enhance their learning outcomes.
